The dental hygienist is a licensed member of the oral health care team responsible for providing preventive, therapeutic and educational services for dental patients and the community.
Basic admission requirements consist of a minimum of 60 semester hours of prescribed course work which may be completed at ECU. These courses include general education requirements and additional courses in the sciences (biology, chemistry). The Professional program consists of 2 years of course work, clinical and practicum in a hospital or clinical setting. Dental hygiene clinical programs are offered at Rose State College, Tulsa Community College, and the University of Oklahoma. RSC and TCC grant an associate degree; OU grants a bachelor’s of science degree.
