By increasing early literacy experiences, awareness of brain development research and child development, there should be an increase in the number of children who enter school prepared to succeed.
Dolly Parton Imagination Library:
Smart Start South Central is proud to bring the Dolly Parton Imagination Library to the children of Pontotoc County. This means a new book will be mailed to your child from the time they are born until they are five years old and it is absolutely free. All children are eligible until their fifth birthday as long as they live in Pontotoc County.
Applications for all children who are residents of Pontotoc County may be obtained at the Ada Public Library. You may also contact Smart Start South Central for more information about applications.

Raising A Reader:
Raising A Reader is a take-home, book bag, reading program offered at various child/home care centers throughout the four-county area. It provides parents the opportunity to check out a bag each week containing age-appropriate literacy books. The program encourages “cuddle time” between parents and their young children, as well as developing a love of reading in the children. Please contact Smart Start South Central to see if your center could benefit from this program.
Children’s literacy books have been provided to the four-county area public health departments to give to children when they visit the facility for wellness checkups, immunizations, or other health concerns. Children’s books have also been placed in area pediatrician waiting rooms.
