What is the GPA requirement for admission to a degree program at East Central University's School of Graduate Studies?
Each degree program determines its GPA requirement, see below:

Master of Education
Meet one of the following:

  1. Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50 on all undergraduate course work to date; or
  2. Have a minimum GPA of 2.75 in the sixty (60) hours of coursework; or
  3. Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 on at least nine (9) hours of graduate coursework.

Master of Science in Accounting
Meet one of the following:

  1. Have a minimum GPA of 3.25 on all undergraduate coursework to date with no work experience; or
  2. Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 on all under graduate work with five (5) years work experience; or
  3. Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 on at least nine (9) hours of graduate coursework.

Master in Management
Meet one of the following:

  1. Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 on all undergraduate coursework to date; or
  2. Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25 in the last sixty (60) hours of coursework; or
  3. Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 on at least nine (9) hours of graduate coursework.

Master of Science in Human Resources
Meet one of the following:

  1. Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 on all undergraduate coursework to date; or
  2. Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 in the last sixty (60) hours of coursework; or
  3. Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 on at least nine (9) hours of graduate coursework;
  4. A minimum score on either:
    395 on the Miller Analogies Test (MAT) or
    40th percentile on the Graduate Record Exam (GRE)

Master of Science in Psychological Services
Meet one of the following:

  1. Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 on all undergraduate coursework to date, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 in the last sixty (60) hours of coursework, or have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 on at least nine (9) hours of graduate coursework; or
  2. Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 on all undergraduate or graduate work in psychology or related field (minimum of eighteen (18) hours).

Master of Science in Water Resource Policy and Management
Meet one of the following:

  1. Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 on all undergraduate coursework to date; or
  2. Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25 in the last sixty (60) hours of coursework.

What is the status of my admission application?
Admission applications do take time to process. If you believe the application has had sufficient time to be processed, you can contact the School of Graduate Studies
at 580.559.5708.

At any time, you can login to your MyECU portal and check your admission status on the Admission Tab, by clicking on View Admissions Status. You will find it on the right-hand side of your screen. Make sure that you have your Student ID # as you will need it on the next screen. You will enter your ID # and hit GO. If you do not have a drop down box you will need to contact the School of Graduate Studies, but if you have the drop down box you will pick what degree program you applied for and it will give you the status.


Does the School of Graduate Studies require a GRE?
Admission to the School of Graduate Studies does not require a GRE, each program but MSA may require it with their program requirements. However, all departments do require a Writing Exam/Essay within the first semester of the program. Failure to complete the Writing Exam/Essay before the deadline will result in a hold on your account. For specific information please contact the School the Graduate Studies.


What are the department application deadlines?
Students admitted to the School of Graduate Studies who have submitted all required Graduate Degree Program Documentation by October 1 for spring enrollment, and March 1 for summer and fall enrollment, will be informed of their admission status no later than November 1 and April 1 respectively.

Student submitting documentation after the October 1 and March 1 deadline will have their application processed on a first-come, first-served basis.

NOTE: All students must be admitted to their program within the first semester of starting classes. All your program documents must be submitted and approved by the program for admission.


Can I take Graduate classes as an undergraduate?
A senior student who lacks less than a full normal study load and who has completed a minimum of one hundred (100) credit hours may be permitted to enroll in courses applicable to a Graduate Degree Program, subject to the following study load provisions:

Fall and Spring Semesters

  1. A maximum of nine (9) undergraduate and six (6) graduate credit hours; or
  2. A maximum of twelve (12) undergraduate and three (3) graduate credit hours.

Summer Semester

  1. A maximum of three (3) undergraduate and three (3) graduate credit hours; or
  2. A maximum of six (6) graduate credit hours.

Note: No more than six (6) hours in a semester or three (3) in a summer term may be applied to a graduate degree.


Enrollment Overload and Full-time Equivalents

Fall/Spring
9 hrs is full-time
4 hrs is required for financial aid
13 or more hrs - Graduate Dean approval required
Regents Absolute Maximum - 16 hrs (Requires Academic Affairs approval. See Academic Affairs for the form.)

Summer
4 hrs is required for financial aid
2-3 hrs is half-time
11-15 hrs - Graduate Dean approval required
Regents Absolute Maximum - 15 hrs (Requires Academic Affairs approval. See Academic Affairs for the form.)


Financial Aid Regulations for Graduate Students
Students please be advised that the courses you choose to enroll in MUST be a required course or an elective course in your degree program. Financial Aid regulations dictate that any graduate student who is seeking financial aid must be enrolled in AT LEAST four (4) credit hours during the fall, spring, or summer semester and the courses MUST be in the degree program.

* Certificate Programs do not qualify for financial aid.
