Pre-Professional Services

East Central University offers all courses that are required for admission to professional schools of medicine, dentistry, optometry, chiropractic, physician’s associate or veterinary medicine. Although the pre-professional sciences student may select any degree major, most successful candidates major in either Biology or Chemistry. Coursework must be arranged so as to complete the required work in time for the admission exams and application in your program (usually Spring of junior year).  Medical, dental, and physician’s associate programs are offered at the University of Oklahoma.  Specific course requirements and other admission criteria are available from the ECU biology department and the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center website (ouhsc.edu/colleges/). A Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) is available from the Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences.  Specific course requirements and other admission criteria are available from the ECU biology department and the OSUCHS website (healthsciences.okstate.edu). A veterinary medicine program is available from the Oklahoma State University Center for Veterinary Health Sciences.  Specific course requirements and other admission criteria are available from the ECU biology department and the OSUCVHS website (cvhs.okstate.edu).  An Optometry program is available at Northeastern State University at Tahlequah.  Specific course requirements and other admission criteria are available from the ECU biology department and the NSU College of Optometry website (optometry.nsuok.edu).
