A Message from the Music Department Coordinator, Dr. Kelley Alig
Thank you for your interest in Music Studies at East Central University. The Department of Music provides a musical foundation for all students, professional preparation for selected major fields in music and cultural enrichment for both the campus and community. ECU offers performance opportunities for all students, regardless of major, through membership in various ensembles including bands, choirs, and chamber music groups. Studies in Piano, Organ and Opera are also available. Our degree programs contain a variety of concentrated areas that include teacher certification, music business and sacred music. Please feel free to contact the ECU Department of Music at anytime. I hope to see you soon!
We believe in the Department of Music that we have a unique role to play in Oklahoma music. Accordingly, the faculty have adopted the following:
- To educate students for lives of service and contribution as teachers, performers, composers and scholars;
- To provide and nurture a nucleus of musical life for the community;
- To educate the university student population regarding music's intrinsic value as a part of the human experience and its central role in human culture; and
- To mutually encourage one another in professional growth and attainment.
As an integral part of our mission, we commit ourselves to continuing steps toward realizing the full potential of community, both as teachers and as colleagues; further, we commit to interaction with our students that emphasizes personal attention and interest in their total musical/intellectual development.
Finally, we affirm the university's mission of seeking the highest professional standards in all aspects of our work.
East Central University is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music. The requirements for entrance and for graduation are in accordance with the published standards of the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.
