The ECU Career Center is dedicated to assisting our 300 plus student-athletes with all aspects of their career and post-graduate needs. Our Center is located in 108 McBride (northeast corner) of the University Center.
East Central University has excelled in academics and athletics and our student-athletes are individuals who have proven success in both.
The demands of being both a student and a college athlete sometimes leave little time for getting job experience. What the athlete needs to realize is that participation in NCAA Division-II is very similar to holding a full-time job. Athletes learn skills that can be transferred to any job situation. It is in the nature of athletics to impart the following qualities on participants. These personal strengths are desirable in virtually all jobs, regardless of the field.
Qualities Developed Include:
- Time Management
- Overcoming Adversity
- Facing Setbacks
- Self Control
For any student-athlete needing assistance with marketing their skills, the career center staff is available to help with self-assessment, resumes, cover letters, mock interviews, and job search planning. A few of the services currently being offered through the Career Center include:
Individual attention devoted solely to you and your questions about careers, internships, graduate or professional school, or making the transition from student to professional. Student-athletes may receive help to clarify goals, explore personal career concerns, and develop an individualized career plan.
The following tests can help you generate career options based on your interests, skills, values, and personality traits. An individual appointment with a career advisor is required for interpretation to add clarity to your test results. The tests measure interests, abilities, values, and personality types in relation to career choices:
