Program Services

Welcome!

The Interpreter Services Program for Deaf or Hard of Hearing Students (ISP) has a long history of providing educational support services to Deaf and hard of hearing students at ECU.  In 1974, East Central University, the Oklahoma Vocational Rehabilitation Agency, and the Student Support Services Program recognized the need to provide post-secondary educational support services to Deaf and hard of hearing students.  The identification of this need prompted the design and implementation of a pilot program of comprehensive educational support services.  This program began with one interpreter and has evolved into the current Interpreter Services Program serving both undergraduate and graduate students who are Deaf or hard of hearing.  This program affords students an opportunity to compete on an equal basis in the pursuit of their educational goals.

Program Goals:

  • Assist students in developing academic and personal independence while pursuing academic goals;
  • Communicate appreciation and respect for individual and cultural differences;
  • To provide qualified professionals who are committed to assisting Deaf and hard of hearing students in achieving their academic goals.
