Distance Education at ECU
East Central University provides many opportunities for students to take classes and earn degrees at a distance. So many times, due to work, family and travel obligations, it’s hard to attend classes at university sites. But through ECU’s Distance Education, classes are offered via ITV at such places as Ardmore, McAlester, Shawnee and other additional sites. ECU also offers online (web-based) via Blackboard courses to help toward students obtaining their degrees.
Degrees Offered at ECU in Ardmore
ECU offers three undergraduate degree options in Ardmore. Students can receive a Bachelor of General Studies, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Bachelor of Arts in Human Services Counseling.
ECU also offers two graduate degrees with several options in Ardmore. Students can receive a Master’s in Human Resources and a Master’s in Education.
University Center of Southern Oklahoma
The University Center of Southern Oklahoma, located in Ardmore, Oklahoma, delivers degree programs from East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma, Murray State College and Southeastern Oklahoma State University. The University Center offers undergraduate and graduate courses in a wide-range of areas that enables students to earn an associates, bachelors, or masters degree through one of the four participating institutions.

ECU IN ARDMORE
Bachelor of General Studies
The BGS Degree meets many employers’ requirements for hiring or promotion and can also provide the foundation for admission to graduate school. In addition, students should tailor their BGS core requirements and other course work to address particular career and personal learning goals including specialization in particular content areas.
This program is designed for non-traditional students who completed a substantial amount of undergraduate work but did not complete their degree. The BGS program permits students to combine prior college work with a minimum of four core courses.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing
The Department of Nursing offers a nursing degree at its three campus sites in Ada, Ardmore and Durant. Generic nursing students complete an eight semester program leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science with a major in nursing. Graduates who meet the Oklahoma state requirements for licensure, including a clear criminal background check, are eligible to apply to write the National Council Licensing Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-CAT, RN) to become a Registered Nurse.
Bachelor of Arts in Human Services Counseling
The primary objective of the Human Services Counseling degree is to prepare students for beginning human services positions in a variety of government, civic, and private community-based agencies and organizations. The Human Services Counseling curriculum provides the knowledge and skills needed for prevention and problem solving with both individuals and groups. The Human Services Counseling degree is available completely in Ardmore.
Master of Science in Human Resources
The Master’s Degree in Human Resources is designed to provide the student with the theory, knowledge, and skills necessary for employment in a variety of public and private settings. Students can complete options in:
