Barbara J. Corcoran wanted a way to express the journey her and her husband Bob have been through and has done so through her book Our Mountains to Climb a Journey of Love and Faith Through Trials.

The 1972 East Central University graduate will conduct a book signing on Friday, Oct. 27, from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. in the lobby directly in front of the ECU Bookstore. The cost of the book is $13.95 plus tax and will be available for purchase.

After graduating from ECU with a degree in elementary education, Barbara J. Corcoran, known then by her maiden name Barbara Gray, served as an elementary school teacher for 37 years until her retirement.

During that time, she married Bob in 1999. But shortly after that came a series of medical concerns for Bob, including him needing a bone marrow transplant in 2000 and having heart issues along the way, including a heart attack and subsequent quadruple bypass surgery two years ago.

“The book deals with my husband’s health issues and how the Lord has helped us through it all,” Barbara said.

The cover of the book prominently displays a photo of the Great Wall of China. It is reminiscent of Barbara’s three mission trips to China in the 1990s. The wall, which winds through the mountains, serves as a picture of Barbara and Bob’s journey.

“I used that as an example of the mountains we had to climb and how far He (the Lord) has brought us,” said Barbara.

According to Barbara, Bob has been cancer free for 17 years and plans to be in attendance at the book signing as well.

Two reviews of the book from Amazon include:

*“This book is so inspiring. It allows you to see God’s hand in the life of his people. You will gain faith in the power of God.”

*Page 61, is particularly poignant, especially if you have experienced comfort from a beloved pet. Even the book’s epilogue was an encouragement to be steadfast and fix our eye on Him.”
