“Theatrical magic” comes to East Central University and the Ada community with the Royal National Theatre's internationally acclaimed production of "War Horse" (New York Times).

The recorded-live “theatre event of the decade” (Sunday Times) will screen in the Raymond J. Estep Multimedia Center of the Bill S. Cole University Center on Wednesday, Dec. 21 at 2 p.m. The screening is free for ECU students, $5 for other students, and $10 for general admission. Free ice-cream will be served during the interval.

ECU SCREENS is collaborating with Sigma Tau Delta and The Honors Student Association to show the “thrilling” NT Live broadcast of “War Horse” (Time Magazine). Since its first performance at the National Theatre in 2007, “War Horse” has become an international smash hit, capturing the imagination of millions of people around the world.

Based on Michael Morpurgo’s novel and adapted for the stage by Nick Stafford, “War Horse” takes audiences on an extraordinary journey from the fields of rural Devon to the trenches of First World War France. Filled with stirring music and songs, this powerfully moving and imaginative drama is a show of phenomenal inventiveness. At its heart are astonishing life-size puppets by South Africa’s Handspring Puppet Company, who bring breathing, galloping, charging horses to thrilling life on stage.

“Genius isn’t too strong a word to describe this astonishing production” raves the Daily Telegraph. “[War Horse is] so exhilarating that it makes you rejoice to be alive” (The Times).

“War Horse” is the final recorded-live NT Live production presented by ECU SCREENS this fall. NT Live is the National Theatre's groundbreaking project to broadcast the best of British theatre to cinemas around the world. ECU SCREENS will return Friday, Jan. 13 with the NT Live production “No Man’s Land” starring Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart.
