ECU SCREENS continues the Foreign Film Festival with "PK" on Friday, Feb. 19, at 4 p.m. in the Raymond J. Estep Multimedia Center of the Bill S. Cole University Center.
ECU SCREENS is collaborating with Sigma Tau Delta and The Honors Student Association to show the heartfelt comedy "PK," a movie made in India. This “biting, whip-smart satire” (Los Angeles Times) is free and open to the public. The Asian Student Association will be selling chai and samosas before the screening.
An alien from another planet comes to Delhi and asks questions no one has asked before. Challenging religious prejudices of all kinds, the controversial new comedy is now the highest-grossing film in Indian film history. "PK" comes from the makers of the sensation of ECU's 2015 Foreign Film Festival: "The Three Idiots."
"PK" is a comedy of ideas about a stranger who asks innocent, child-like questions that bring about catastrophic answers. People who are set in their ways for generations are forced to reappraise their world when they see it from PK's innocent eyes. In the process, PK makes loyal friends and powerful foes, mends broken lives, and angers the establishment.
PK's childlike curiosity transforms into a spiritual odyssey for him and millions of others. The film is an ambitious and uniquely original exploration of complex philosophies. It is also a simple and humane tale of love, laughter and letting go. Finally, it is a moving saga about a friendship between strangers from worlds apart.
"PK" is the third in a series of foreign films presented by ECU SCREENS this spring. ECU’s Foreign Film Festival will conclude Friday, Feb. 26, with Argentine film Wild Tales.
