ADA – East Central University alumnus Carlos E. Johnson has been named the new board chair for the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA), it was recently announced in Nashville, Tenn.

Johnson is a 1964 ECU graduate and has served on the ECU Foundation’s Board of Trustees for a number of years.  He also taught at the University of Oklahoma and at Oklahoma State University, where he received his master’s and doctorate degrees.

He held the dean’s position in the ECU School of Business from 1970-73.

A native of Oklahoma City, Johnson previously served as vice chair, director-at-large and southwest regional director of the NASBA Board. He currently serves as NASBA’s newly-established Leadership Development Group and was former chair of NASBA’s Uniform Accountancy Act (UAA) Committee, Audit Committee, State Board Relevance and Effectiveness Committee, Legislative Support Committee and Substantial Equivalency Strike Force (Mobility Task Force).

Johnson is a former member of NASBA’s Administration and Finance, Regulatory Structures and Relations with Member Boards committees. For 10 years, he served on the Oklahoma Accountancy Board, contributing three terms as chairman and two as vice chairman.

In 2011, Johnson received the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants’ Special Recognition Award for his more than 40 years of exemplary service to the CPA profession in Oklahoma. The AICPA’s Special Recognition Award is given to an individual who has contributed to the success of a particular professional initiative – contributions of an outstanding nature.

With over 40 years of accounting experience, Johnson has specialized in the practice of financial institutions, higher education, government, not-for-profit and retail accounting.
