The East Central University Astronomy Club will have a viewing of comet Holmes at the ECU observatory from 9 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday [NOV. 14] if skies are clear.  The public is invited to see this unique and amazing comet which brightened by a factor of 400,000 in only one day.

Parking is available at the Physical Plant parking lot off Stadium Drive. The observatory is 100 feet north up the hill.

"The comet is also an easy target for binoculars and can be found in the northeast sky about 30 degrees above the horizon in the evenings after dark," said Dr. Carl Rutledge," chair of ECU's physics department. "It looks like a large fuzzy star about half the size of the moon and can be seen with the unaided eye. Unlike most comets, no tail will be visible."
