The East Central University Communications and Marketing Department recently captured six awards at the Oklahoma College Public Relations Association (OCPRA) Annual Conference at the Artesian Hotel in Sulphur.

ECU garnered two grand awards (first place), one excellence award (second place) and two achievement awards (third place) to go with one honorable mention award at the event.

The first-place awards were in the categories of radio and shoestring.

In the radio category, ECU’s Lacey McAdoo, Amy Ford and Talina Eaker combined to take the top prize for “ECU Fine Arts Season Pass.” In the shoestring category, the ECU Office of Communications and Marketing took first by virtue of its efforts in promoting the fine arts event – “ECU Presents Molly Ringwald.” The shoe-string category is judged on the amount of success or scope of a project with a small budget.

ECU also took second place in the shoestring category, with the help of the ECU Founder’s Day Committee, in the promotion of “Happy Founder’s Day ECU.”

Third-place awards for ECU were achieved in poster design (sports) by Todd Milligan and video featurette “ECU – Let’s Review” by Cheyney Taylor and Ford.

The honorable mention award from the square peg category went to the ECU Office of Communications and Marketing and the Academic Success Center for “Get Clearance,” a campaign that heightened awareness for students to “get cleared” before enrolling. The square peg is a general, wildcard design category which includes any items that do not fit any other 37 categories in the competition.
