ECU MARKS THE SPOT FOR MAGICAL ‘TREASURE ISLAND’ SCREENING
ECU SCREENS will present an “imaginative adaptation” (Guardian) of “Treasure Island” at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 12, in the Raymond J. Estep Multimedia Center of the Bill S. Cole University Center.
This stage adaptation brings to life Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic coming-of-age tale of murder, money, and mutiny on the high seas.
ECU SCREENS is collaborating with Sigma Tau Delta and The Honors Student Association to show the “thrillingly executed” (The Stage) recorded-live production of “Treasure Island” performed at the Royal National Theatre of London. Open to the public, the screening is free for students with an ECU ID, $5 for other students, and $10 for members of the community. Called “fun for all the family” by Time Out, “Treasure Island” is suitable for ages 10 and up.
This innovative adaptation reimagines the character of Jim as the innkeeper’s granddaughter rather than his son. On a dark and stormy night, Jim (Patsy Ferran) opens the door to a terrifying stranger. At the old sailor’s feet sits a huge sea-chest, full of secrets. Jim invites him in – and her dangerous voyage begins.
This showing is the sixth in a series of foreign films and NT Live productions that have been presented by ECU SCREENS this spring. NT Live is the National Theatre's groundbreaking project to broadcast the best of British theatre to cinemas around the world. The last two showings of the spring season are “Behind the Beautiful Forevers” on April 13 at 4 p.m. and “Of Mice and Men” on April 30 at 6:30 p.m.
