ECU’S DR. GUY SEWELL NAMED BOARD CERTIFIED ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTIST BY THE AAEES
Dr. Guy W. Sewell, professor in East Central University’s Environmental Health Science Department, was recently honored as a board certified environmental scientist in the areas of groundwater and subsurface environments by the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists.
The AAEES certifies qualified environmental engineers and scientists recommended by peers in their field of specialty as board certified environmental scientists through certification procedures prescribed by the academy’s bylaws.
“I am honored by the recognition from the AAEES, which I consider one of the preeminent scientific organizations in the water resource area,” said Sewell. “I believe it is particularly important that ECU faculty seek and receiver peer recognition in their respective fields.”
Sewell is an internationally recognized expert in the areas of water resources, contaminant fate and transport and the treatment of hazardous waste. He is also a designated DOE technical subject matter expert for the Los Alamos National Laboratory and has published over 50 scientific papers on topics such as groundwater quality, subsurface ecology, environmental cleanup and water resources. Sewell has also made scientific presentations at numerous national and international meetings.
He joined the ECU faculty in 2002 and holds the Robert S. Kerr Endowed Chair and rank of professor of Environmental Health Sciences at ECU. Sewell also serves as the director of research for the Oka’ Institute at ECU, president of the Ada Water Resources Board and is in his second term as mayor of Ada.
Sewell earned his bachelor’s degree and Ph.D. from Oklahoma State University.
