ECU SCREENS revives “Frankenstein” one last time on Tuesday, Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. in the Raymond J. Estep Multimedia Center in the Bill S. Cole University Center.

Starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller, the production was a sell-out hit at the National Theatre and the broadcast has since become an international sensation, experienced by almost half a million people in cinemas around the world.

“Frankenstein” is the most popular production ECU SCREENS has hosted in three years of bringing NT LIVE events to the ECU campus. In this version of the production, Benedict Cumberbatch plays Victor Frankenstein and Jonny Lee Miller plays the Creature, so audience that saw the October screening in the Estep, will get a unique opportunity to view how two of the preeminent actors of this generation interprets each part.

Childlike in his innocence but grotesque in form, Frankenstein’s bewildered Creature is cast out into a hostile universe by his horror-struck maker. Meeting with cruelty wherever he goes, the friendless Creature, increasingly desperate and vengeful, determines to track down his creator and strike a terrifying deal. Urgent concerns of scientific responsibility, parental neglect, cognitive development and the nature of good and evil are embedded within this thrilling and deeply disturbing classic gothic tale.

The screening contains some scenes of sexual violence and is not recommended for children.

Tickets are $10 for the general public and $5 for students.

Next up for ECU SCREENS is ECU’s Seventh Annual Foreign Film Festival, with screenings scheduled for each Friday in February at 4 p.m. in the Estep. On Friday, Feb. 3, the festival begins with the Nepalese film "The Black Hen,” which will be the grand finale of a day-long event titled “Across the Himalayas: A Journey through Fiction, Film and Food,” which is sponsored in part by the Oklahoma Humanities Council.

The festival will also feature a German film, “Labyrinth of Lies” on Feb. 10, Mexico’s .“Golden Dreams” on Feb. 17, and Lebanon’s “Where Do We Go Now?” on Feb. 24. All Foreign Film Festival screenings are free and open to the public.
