FISHER AWARDS ANNOUNCED FROM ECU’S SCISSORTAIL WRITING FESTIVAL

ADA – These high school students were honored with Fisher Awards during the Scissortail Creative Writing Festival held this spring at East Central University. On the front row are (left to right): Whitney Stewart, of Moore High School, who wrote “Therapy” and was honorable mention in the fiction division; Subhieh Matar, of Deer Creek High School who wrote “Dark Detective” for honorable mention in the fiction division; Ella Parsons, of Norman North High School who wrote “Phantomes du Louvre” for honorable mention in fiction; Erin Haastrup, of Union High School who wrote “Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister” for honorable mention in poetry; Victoria Quiroga, of Lawton High School who wrote “The Old Mill” for honorable mention in poetry; and Misty Jeter, of Dickson High School who wrote “The Singing Bird Flies Low: The Diary of Harlequin Linchtstrahl for honorable mention in fiction. On the middle row are (left to right): Sara Ishaq, who wrote “Alien” for third place in the fiction division; Aubrey Cryness, of Norman North who wrote “By Sophomore Year” and was honorable mention in poetry; Peter Biles, of Latta High School who wrote “The Patriot” for first place in the fiction division; Katelyn Elrod, of Chickasha High School who wrote “Remembering Audrey” for second place in fiction. On the back row are (left to right): Neena Alavicheh, of Yukon High School who wrote “Reflections in Leaves” for second place in poetry; Shannon Abbott, of Norman North who wrote “Aurora” for first place in poetry; Samantha Huckabay, of Norman North who wrote “Dad Never Cooked Much” for honorable mention in poetry and James Bratton, of Norman North who wrote “The Port” for third place in poetry.
