FREE CLASS ON PHOTOVOLTAIC SYSTEMS TECHNOLOGY BEGINS DEC. 20

A three-day class on Photovoltaic Systems Technology will be offered Tuesday through Thursday [DEC. 20-22] at East Central University.  There is no charge for the free class which is sponsored by The Southern Oklahoma Green Jobs Training Consortium.

The class will meet eight hours each day to prepare students for entry-level positions in the green energy, green construction and solar panel installation industry.  Participants will learn design and installation of photovoltaic systems for residential, public and light commercial buildings and will receive ECU certificates in photovoltaic science after completing the course.

The class will be repeated March 20-22, 2012 in Ada.

The training consortium is part of an “Oklahoma Green” grant awarded to ECU which is funded by the U.S. Department of Labor and administered by the Oklahoma Department of Commerce. Different courses are training and certifying workers throughout the year for “green jobs” in energy efficiency and renewable energy occupations.

Eligible participants include those who are age 18 or over, unemployed, veterans or spouses of veterans or need updated training related to energy efficiency and renewable energy industries. Also eligible are people with a criminal record and workers impacted by national energy and environmental policy or automotive-related restructuring (Oklahoma and Marshall Counties).

The consortium includes ECU, the Southern Oklahoma Workforce Board, Chickasaw Nation Career Services, Dr. Green Energy, Byng and Ada Public Schools and the Pontotoc Technology Center.
