Stephen H. Greetham, chief general for the Chickasaw Nation’s Division of Commerce, will deliver East Central University’s Lou Watkins Lecture on water law in Oklahoma at noon Tuesday, Sept. 13, in Foundation Hall of the Chickasaw Business and Conference Center.

Greetham also serves as the Chickasaw Nation’s special counsel on water and natural resources, where he works closely with tribal leadership in the management of complex litigation and resource protection and development strategies.

Previously, Greetham was a partner in the Nordhaus Law Firm in Albuquerque, N.M., where he served as water and general counsel to several American Indian tribes. He has taught federal Indian tax, gaming and water law at the University of New Mexico Law School and currently does the same at the University of Oklahoma Law School.

The lecture this fall coincides with the opening of the Oka’ Institute on the ECU campus. The institute is designed to bridge the gap between sustainable water management and economic development. Expanded degree options, related to the institute, is projected to include a master’s option in water policy management.

The purpose of the lectureship, which honors Lou Watkins, former chair of ECU's political science department, is to bring recognized authorities to ECU to address subjects of public interest at the local, state or national level.

Watkins taught at ECU from 1980 until 1991 when she and her husband, former U.S. Rep. Wes Watkins, moved from Ada. She is president of World Export Services Inc. and is a member of the Board of Regents for the Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical Colleges.
