An author and historian who has provided commentary for a number of television and radio programs will speak June 2 [WEDNESDAY] at East Central University.

ECU's Center for Advancement of American History is inviting the public to Dr. Edward T. O'Donnell's presentations at 10:15 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. in the Estep Multimedia Center in the Bill S. Cole University Center.

O'Donnell's first presentation is titled "The Transformation of Antebellum America." His 11:30 presentation is about the Cold War. Admission is free and reservations are not necessary.

O'Donnell is an associate professor at Holy Cross College in Worcester, Mass. He is the author of three books: "Visions of America: A History of the United States," "Ship Ablaze: The Tragedy of the Steamboat General Slocum," and "1001 Things Everyone Should Know About Irish American History."

His fourth book, "Talisman of a Lost Hope: Henry George and Gilded Age America," is forthcoming.

O'Donnell has provided commentary for PBS, the Discovery Channel, ABC World News Now, National Public Radio, the BBC, Bloomberg Radio, WOR Radio, Fox TV and VH-1 (TV).

O'Donnell specializes in teaching teachers how to use images in the classroom. His presentation topics coincide with the content focus for the June 1-4 colloquium for 30 area teachers from 19 different school districts. The teachers are participants in a Teaching American History grant, part of the U.S. Department of Education.
