LANCE NEWMAN DISPLAYING WORK IN SENIOR ART SHOW AT ECU
Lance Newman of Oklahoma City, a 24-year-old graduating artist at East Central University, will display a barrage of artwork for his final undergraduate show Sept. 19-26 [FRIDAY-FRIDAY] in ECU's Art Department. A reception for the artist will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sept. 19 [FRIDAY].
The show is open to the public and is the final exhibition of Newman's undergraduate career. He will graduate with a bachelor's degree in art with a minor in media graphic art.
Newman's show will include paintings, prints, photographs and sculptures. The work is a collaboration of photorealistic industrial and figural subjects that is rendered monochromatically.
"Industrial objects play an important role in my work," he said. "As long as I can remember, I have always enjoyed learning how objects function. I would take them apart and figure out how to create something else using the parts.
"Whether it was booby traps in my bedroom or G.I. Joe boats with added electric motors," he said, "I tried to give function to 'functionless' objects. While I still try to create objects, function and design becomes amalgamated. Now the processes are more in depth and the materials themselves are functional."
