The LLAF was established last year to provide organizational and financial support for Linscheid Library that is not available from public funding, said Dr. Adrianna Lancaster, director of the library. The organization raises money to sponsor programs for the public such as cultural or art exhibits, readings by authors, book signings, film screenings or displays of student work.

In April the LLAF held an Originals Showcase in the library for the students who contributed to Originals, ECU's publication of student art, poetry and prose. LLAF also conducted its first Pimp Your (library) Cart contest for the ECU Homecoming parade last fall.

The LLAF also can provide financial support for staff professional development and works to ensure that the community knows about the services Linscheid Library offers.

"Members of Linscheid Library Academic Friends receive a 10 percent discount at the ECU Bookstore, excluding textbooks, plus other benefits and recognitions," said Dana Belcher, assistant director of the library.

Memberships begin at $20 for students and $50 for ECU faculty and staff and community members. Other levels are $100 for Director, $250 for Linscheid, $500 for Corporate and $1,500 for Lifetime memberships.

Dr. Steve Schmelling is president of LLAF. Other officers are Dr. Shelley Ross Hamby, vice president; and Paul Keefer and Dr. Anne Davis, members-at-large. Lancaster and Belcher are ex-officio members.
