NOBODIES OF COMEDY COMING TO EAST CENTRAL UNIVERSITY JAN. 26
Described as “the funniest comics you’ve never heard of,” a touring talent showcase of young comedians will perform Jan. 26 at East Central University.
The Nobodies of Comedy will bring four of the nation’s fastest rising stars of comedy to the Ataloa Theatre in the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center as part of ECU’s fine arts season. Erick James, Tim Krompier, Mark Viera and James Johann will perform at 7:30 p.m.
The comedians’ raw, edgy comedy is intended for mature audiences.
Tickets are $18. Dr. Brad Jessop, director of ECU’s School of Fine Arts, said 150 student tickets are available for $5.75 on a first-come, first-serve basis. Tickets may be purchased online at tickets.ecok.edu or reserved by calling the theatre’s box office at 580-559-5751 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. All regular tickets, including those for season ticket holders, should be picked up at the will call window the night of the show. Any remaining tickets will be sold at the door.
Touring since 2002, the Nobodies of Comedy is produced by Michael Mills of Mills Entertainment. Mills said he scours the country for the funniest up-and-coming comics and selects them for the annual tour based solely on their talent.
Erick James, described as innocent yet devilish, naive yet ironic, shy yet forthright, is a study in contrasts and approaches comedy from both an analytical and childlike point of view. He is featured at clubs across the northeast and works colleges and corporate functions. He opened for Dave Attell’s Insomniac Tour when in Albany, N.Y., and has worked several times with the Killers of Comedy. He is also a co-creator and producer of “Laughs & Latte,”™ a comedy series designed for and performed in coffee houses around the northeast.
Tim Krompier has been entertaining audiences with his original autobiographical style of comedy for several years, headlining in comedy clubs, theatres and showcases across the country, with weekly spots in New York City and Long Island. He also is a comedy writer for United Stations/Pulse Radio Networks in New York. His writing and voice work can be heard on stations across the country.
Mark Viera’s performances reflect his lighthearted, fun-loving approach to entertaining and his knack for seeing humor in even the most ordinary situations. He secured a coveted role as a featured comic on the critically acclaimed “Martin Lawrence Presents 1st Amendment Stand-Up.” He made his network television debut on NBC's “30 Rock” and won a leading position with the most sought after comedy group in the U.S., “Top Dogs of Comedy.” He can be seen in the Comedy Central show, “Russell Simmons Presents Stand-Up at the El Rey.”
James Johann has been a long-time staple of the Midwest comedy circuit. His small town upbringing makes him a favorite in the heartland of the country. He has performed alongside some of the top-grossing names in the comedy industry: Jeff Foxworthy, Larry The Cable Guy, Ron White, Lewis Black, Tracy Morgan and Kevin Nealon.
