An award-winning Texas artist who is a major force in the field of oil and pastel painting will teach a five-day workshop May 23-27 [MONDAY-FRIDAY] at East Central University. It is the first of three workshops to be taught this summer by noted artists.

Ann Templeton will teach the oil and pastel painting workshop from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center. She has been painting since 1969 and is highly recognized for her use of transparent, creative color and her abstracted landscapes.

The cost of the workshop is $595. There is a $150 discount, however, if participants also enroll in the other two workshops, a watercolor workshop Aug. 3-5 by master artist Nel Byrd, and an American landscape art workshop Dec. 13-15 by artist Bruce Peil. The cost for the last two workshops is $345 each.

To enroll, contact Charlee Lanis at ECU’s Center of Continuing Education and Community Services at 580-559-5457 or clanis@ecok.edu.

Templeton, an oil/pastel conceptual impressionist, likes to describe her paintings as “symbolic expressions.”

She has developed techniques over 40 years of painting to capture the landscape quickly and to interpret it with her unique vision of color and design. She has introduced many students to her award-winning techniques in workshops she has taught in as many as 10 states and countries. She also lectures and teaches for art guilds and college classes and juries competitive art shows several times a year.

Templeton is the author of two books. “The Art of Ann Templeton: A Step Beyond” is a retrospective that talks about her life, influences and techniques and includes nearly 100 images of her work. “Color and Beyond” is a how-to-paint book that goes deeper into the art of color than is possible in her workshop lectures.

She also has several instructional videos and DVDs. She is represented in permanent collections at San Juan Community College, Farmington, N.M.; Brownsville (Texas) Art Museum; Hill Country Arts Foundation, Ingram, Texas; Coupeville Arts Center, Coupeville, Whidby Island, Wash.; and Ellen Noe’l Art Institute of the Permian Basin, Odessa, Texas.

Templeton has won numerous awards in the United States and abroad. She is a Signature Member of both Knickerbocker Artists, USA, and the Pastel Society of America. She is the founder of Alla Prima International and a member of many other art organizations. More information about her is available on her website at www.anntempleton.com
