Darryl Overstreet, who has spent the last 18 years in various capacities at the University of Oklahoma, has been selected as the new physical plant director at East Central University.

Overstreet most recently served as OU’s director and facilities, housing and food services since 2003. He started in the OU physical plant 18 years ago as an electrician, advanced to supervisor of the housing maintenance team and ultimately made the transition to the facilities, housing and food services’ directorship position.

“I’m extremely excited and look forward to the challenge and being closer to home,” said Overstreet, who grew up and attended school in Wapanucka.

Overstreet is confident with what he brings to the table in benefiting the ECU Community.

“East Central University can benefit from my experience and knowledge. I want the physical plant to be a more viable part of the ECU family,” Overstreet said. “I want to take care of the students, faculty and staff with the students being at the forefront. The physical plant should be part of the (college) investment.”

Overstreet comes to ECU in the midst of two major campus projects, the construction of the Chickasaw Business and Conference Center, set to open this fall, and the addition of new football turf at Norris Field.

“It’s an exciting time to see the growth of ECU and be a part of that growth process,” said Overstreet.

Overstreet’s wife is Shannon and they have a 20-year-old son Alex.

“We’re excited to have Darryl here as our physical plant director. He brings a wealth of understanding and versatility to this position since he oversaw several different areas at OU. He certainly has the tools to show great leadership in a vital area for this university to function,” said Jessica Boles, ECU vice president of administration and finance.
