SPEND VALENTINE’S AFTERNOON WITH TWO HANDSOME ‘BEAUX’
ECU SCREENS continues its spring season with "The Beaux’ Stratagem" on Sunday, Feb. 14, at 2 p.m. in the Raymond J. Estep Multimedia Center of the Bill S. Cole University Center.
A wild comedy of love and cash, "The Beaux’ Stratagem" is “exuberant fun . . . exhilarating” (Guardian). Enjoy Blue Bell ice cream cups during intermission, in keeping with British theatre tradition.
ECU SCREENS is collaborating with Sigma Tau Delta and The Honors Student Association to screen the “unstoppably entertaining” (Observer) NT Live broadcast of The Beaux’ Stratagem. Open to the public, the screening is free for ECU students and $10 for members of the community.
The ‘Beaux’ - Mr. Aimwell and Mr. Archer - are two charming, dissolute young men who have blown their fortunes in giddy London. Shamed and debt-ridden, they flee to provincial Lichfield. Their ‘Stratagem’: to marry for money.
Lodged at the local inn, posing as master and servant, they encounter a teeming variety of human obstacles: a crooked landlord, a fearsome highwayman, a fervent French Count, a maid on the make, a drunken husband, a furious butler, a natural healer and a strange, turbulent priest.
But their greatest obstacle is love. When the beaux meet their match in Dorinda and Mrs. Sullen they are most at risk, for in love they might be truly discovered.
"The Beaux’ Stratagem" is the second in a series of NT Live productions that will be presented by ECU SCREENS this spring. NT Live is the National Theatre's groundbreaking project to broadcast the best of British theatre to cinemas around the world. ECU SCREENS will present four different Royal National Theater recorded-live stage performances throughout the spring semester. The screenings, which range from classic literary masterpieces to popular contemporary works, are all open to the public.
