THOMSEN, HILLIARD RECEIVE DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARDS

Two area legislators received awards Monday [JAN. 9] in recognition of their continued support of higher education.

Dr. Glen D. Johnson, chancellor of the Oklahoma State System of Higher Education, presented the 2011 Distinguished Service Award to state Rep. Todd Thomsen of Ada and ECU alumnus and state Rep. Wes Hilliard of Sulphur during a ceremony at East Central University.

“These individuals each year, frankly, have distinguished themselves through their courage and leadership (in support of higher education),” Johnson said.

ADDICTION, RECOVERY CONFERENCE TO BE HELD JAN. 19-20 AT ECU

An Addiction and Recovery Conference to be held Jan. 19 and 20 [THURSDAY-FRIDAY] at East Central University will focus on current issues, trends and strategies in the field of substance abuse and offer information on addiction recovery, treatment and prevention.

The workshop will be presented by ECU’s Brandon Whitten Institute for Addiction & Recovery.

ECU STUDENTS LISTED ON PRESIDENT'S, DEANS' HONOR ROLLS

High academic performance during the spring 2012 semester has earned listings on the President’s and Deans’ Honor Rolls for students at East Central University.

The President’s Honor Roll is reserved for students who earned A's in all their courses for a perfect 4.0 grade point average. The Deans’ Honor Roll lists students who have at least a 3.33 grade point average with no grade lower than a C. At least 12 credit hours must be completed successfully during the semester to be included on either honor roll.

TODD THOMPSEN, WES HILLIARD TO RECEIVE AWARDS MONDAY AT ECU

State Rep. Todd Thomsen of Ada and Rep. Wes Hilliard of Sulphur will receive 2011 Distinguished Service Awards in Ada Monday [JAN. 9] from Dr. Glen D. Johnson, chancellor of the Oklahoma State System of Higher Education.

The awards will recognize Thomsen’s and Hilliard’s continued support for higher education.

Johnson will present the awards at 3:30 p.m. in the Lockmiller Lobby of the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center. ECU President John Hargrave will represent the Council of College and University Presidents. The public is invited.

ECU OFFERING ZUMBA, HATHA YOGA AND GENTLE YOGA CLASSES

Do you dream of being more flexible, having better balance or finding a workout that makes you dance? If so, East Central University is offering Hatha Yoga, Gentle Yoga and Zumba classes to the community. The Zumba class begins Jan. 10 and both yoga classes begin Jan. 11.  

“From gentle exercise to medium exercise or a high-energy workout, you will find something that meets your wants and lifestyle,” said Rebecca Gatz, the instructor for the yoga classes.
