    Nine music students from East Central University were selected for the 2011 Oklahoma Intercollegiate Honor Band which performed as part of the Oklahoma Music Educators Association convention recently in Tulsa.

    Eight students from Ada, Byng and Latta will be among the 81 junior high and high school students from across the state presenting research papers today [THURSDAY] at the state meet of the Oklahoma Junior Academy of Science. The OJAS meet and the Oklahoma State Science and Engineering Fair are held annually at East Central University.

    Student research papers were certified earlier at regional meets throughout Oklahoma.

    An Instrumental Ensembles Concert with the East Central University Flute, Clarinet and Brass Ensembles will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Thursday [MARCH 24] in the Ataloa Theatre in ECU’s Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center. The concert is free and open to the public.

    Senior students from East Central University’s Upward Bound Program pause in the state Capitol during TRIO Day. TRIO is a family of federal grant programs dedicated to helping students who meet certain income guidelines or would be first-generation college students to achieve their dream of obtaining a college education. TRIO students from across Oklahoma heard elected officials talk about the importance of earning a college degree.</body></html>

    Dale Boatwright, president of Landmark Bank, presents a $500 check to Phyllis Kunze, executive director of the ECU Foundation Inc. The funds will be used for general operations and scholarships for deserving ECU students. Landmark Bank has been a longtime supporter of ECU by establishing scholarships and helping with operational expenses. Boatwright also serves as a trustee of the ECU Foundation

    Oklahoma City –

    An upcoming forum will provide artists from Ada and southeast Oklahoma resources for getting work through services offered by the Oklahoma Arts Council and the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition.

    The free forum, centered on the theme “Knowledge is Power,” will be held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. March 31 [THURSDAY] at the East Central University Arts Incubator at 808 E. Main, Suite C, in Ada.

    A chemical engineer and entrepreneur who believes biofuels could represent between 20 and 50 percent of energy use in the United States will be the speaker for East Central University’s annual Boswell Lecture on March 25 [FRIDAY].

    Graham Towerton will discuss  "Biofuels - Past, Present and Future" at 1:10 p.m. in the Estep Multimedia Center in the Bill S. Cole University Center. The lecture is free and open to the public.

    A Russian Tea Room will be open from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Thursday [MARCH 10] in the Regents Room in Knight Hall at East Central University. Russian tea will be served from samovars and Slavic style-pancakes and Russian and Ukrainian candies and cookies will be offered.

    Also featured will be Russian and Ukrainian music and dance. A “Welcome to Ukraine” presentation will be made by three exchange students from the University of Linguistics in Kiev.
