    ADA – Select Native American baskets and totem poles from the Northwestern United States, as part of the Sally and Marshall Gettys Collection, will be on display in East Central University’s Pogue Art Gallery in the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center from Oct. 24-Nov.26.

    The exhibit, sponsored by the Office of the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences and the Native American Studies Program, can be viewed each weekday during that span from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

    ADA – Social media expert Maira Moraes Ollila will deliver the 2013-2014 Boswell Lecture, Social Media in the Business World, on Thursday, Sept. 26, at 1 p.m. in Foundation Hall at East Central University’s Chickasaw Business and Conference Center.

    According to Boswell Endowed Professor of Business Administration Dr. Pat Fountain, Ollila has distinguished herself in her field.

    ADA – Get ready to enjoy an evening of off-the-cuff comedy using the language and themes of William Shakespeare when The Improvised Shakespeare Company takes the Ataloa stage in the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center at East Central University.

    ADA – Entries are being accepted until 5 p.m. on Sept. 27 for East Central University’s “Roary Loves the 90’s” 2013 Homecoming Parade, set for noon on Oct. 5 on Ada’s Main Street.

    Ada area businesses as well as current ECU registered student organizations are encouraged to participate. The parade is open to floats (trailer pulled by vehicle), decorated car or truck, marching bands and walkers.

    There is no entry fee for the parade.

    ADA – The East Central University Alumni Association has announced activities for its 2013 Homecoming, themed ‘Roary Loves the 90’s, Celebrating our 1993 Breakthrough Championship’, scheduled for Oct. 4-5.
     
    The annual homecoming golf tournament is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 4, with a 1 p.m. shotgun start at the Oak Hills Golf and Country Club in Ada. The entry fee for the four-person scramble is $125 per golfer and includes a burger lunch, beginning at 11:30 a.m. The cost is $10 for those not participating in the golf tournament, but wanting to eat lunch.

    ADA – Those wanting to be better prepared for job interviews can attend a free seminar called “Negotiating the Job Market – How to get Hired” on Wednesday, Sept. 25, or Monday, Oct. 14, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in room 221 of East Central University’s new Chickasaw Business and Conference Center.

    ADA – Step Out of the Darkness, a day of prevention and recovery from addiction, is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 21, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., beginning at the Pontotoc County Courthouse in Ada and wrapping up at East Central University’s Kerr Activities Center.
     
    The event will feature a prayer march, prevention and recovery rally, food, fun and facts, along with a grand prize drawing.
     
    The Pontotoc County Prayer March, hosted by the Pontotoc County Drug Free Coalition, will start at 10:30 a.m.
