ADA – East Central University congratulates Sister Rosemary Nyirumbe, who was named to the Time Magazine List of 100 Most Influential People in the World, it was announced on Thursday.
Also on the list are Beyonce, who is on the Time Magazine cover; Oklahoma singer and entertainer Carrie Underwood; President Barack Obama and entertainer Robert Redford.

As many as 50 companies and graduate schools will be on hand as East Central University hosts the Spring 2014 Career Expo on Tuesday, April 22, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the ECU Foundation Hall of Chickasaw Business and Conference Center.

East Central University’s Campus Initiative to Reduce Crime Against Women (CIRCAW) and Empowering You and Educating Students (EYES) will host a campus Sexual Assault Awareness Month event on Tuesday, April 22, at 6 p.m.
The community-wide event is designed to raise awareness of the blight of sexual assault victimization which not only affects victims but communities.
The event is affiliated with National Walk a Mile in her Shoes. Campus teams of two men and two women will be formed. The teams will share a pair of high heels on a relay course across campus.

ADA - One of the biggest issues facing the City of Ada is the lack of affordable housing options. This problem is particularly grave for professionals seeking to relocate to Ada, college students and low income people.
East Central University political science students are planning a service learning project to spotlight the issue. A public forum is set for Wednesday, April 16, at 7 p.m., on Centennial Plaza on ECU’s campus.

ADA – East Central University’s “An Evening of Honors and Recognition” is set for Friday, May 2, at 6:30 p.m. in the ECU Foundation Hall of the Chickasaw Business and Conference Center.
The 2014 Distinguished Honorees and 2013 Centennial Endowments will be recognized at the dinner and awards ceremony. Tickets are on sale now for $30 per person. ADA – Visualizing Evil: Moral Monstrosity in Medieval and Renaissance Art will be the topic at East Central University’s Third Annual Lockmiller Lecture in Art History on Tuesday, April 8, at 4 p.m. in the Estep Center of the Bill S. Cole University Center.
Dr. Anne Derbes, professor emeritus of art history at Hood College (Md.), will be making the presentation.

ADA – John Gaines took perhaps the most unlikely path toward obtaining a bachelor’s degree from East Central University in 2011.
Gaines will share his story on Monday, April 7, in the Parker Ethics Lecture at 3 p.m. in Foundation Hall of the Chickasaw Business and Conference Center on the ECU campus. The lecture is free and open to the public.

ADA – Major Barbara, a three-act play by George Bernard Shaw, will be presented by the East Central University Theatre Department on April 10-12 in the Chalmers Herman Theatre of the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center.
Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. each night with an additional matinee performance set for Saturday, April 12 at 2 p.m.
Major Barbara was written and premiered in 1905 and was first published in 1907. This version of the play will be updated to the present, according to Dr. Richard Groetzinger, ECU director of theatre.
