    Representatives of business schools from 25 college and universities in five states are on the East Central University campus this week for the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) Region 6 Conference at the Chickasaw Business and Conference Center.

    Approximately 250 people are in attendance, including the business school representatives (adults and college students), high school students, ECU faculty and various volunteers. Region 6 consists of business schools and programs from Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico and Texas.

    Four East Central University students were awarded funding under the NASA National Space Grant College and Fellowship Program for the 2015-2016 academic year.

    Kylee Boydstun, a junior biology major from Ada; Morgan Mackey a junior molecular biology major from Choctaw; Brandon Postoak, a senior biology major from Allen and Heather Wright, a junior biology major from Antlers were the four award winners from ECU.

    The musical works of Handel, Bach, Mozart, Milhaud, Rachmaninov and Bernstein, along with that of East Central University student composer Steve H. Filkins can be heard in a concert Thursday, Oct. 22, at 7:30 p.m. at the Ada Arts and Heritage Center.

    ECU’s Dr. Melody Baggech, associate professor of music, and Dr. Lark Powers, assistant professor of music, will be joined by Emily Ross, Alexandra Aguirre-Berman and Catie Caton in the performance.

    Admission is free and open to the public.

    Representing East Central University and serving as a delegate for the United States, Dr. Mara Sukholutskaya took part in the XIII International Congress of Teachers of the Russian Language and Literature (MAPRYAL) in September in Granada, Spain.

    The venue for the event was the Palace of Congresses. University of Granada was a local host.

    East Central University is planning to raise awareness about cyber security during Cyber Security Awareness Month.

    An FBI representative, along with Bryan Sherbourne, cyber security expert, will present the “Main Event” from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13 in the Estep Multimedia Center in the Bill S. Cole University Center. Sherbourne will educate attendees about cyberbullying, current cyber threats and all we can do to be safer with the use of internet and social media. 

    The event is free and open to the public.

    East Central University will present its Jazz Ensemble Concert at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 12, in the Kennedy Band Hall of the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center.

    The concert, which is free and open to the public, will be under the direction of Kirk Palmer. Performances will be conducted on the alto sax, tenor sax, trumpet, trombone, piano and bass. Selections include: April in Paris; Mercy, Mercy, Mercy; Samantha; Splanky and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight.

    Weston Smith often speaks, challenges and motivates groups “to simply do the right thing.”

    Smith, former CFO of HealthSouth, will be presenting “Crossing the Line – An Insider’s Perspective of the HealthSouth Fraud” at East Central University’s 26th Annual Parker Ethics Lecture Thursday, Oct. 22, at 7:30 p.m. in ECU Foundation Hall at the Chickasaw Business and Conference Center.

    Entries are being accepted for East Central University’s 2015 Homecoming Parade, set for Saturday, Oct. 31, at noon along Main Street in Ada. “Once Upon a Time in Tigerland” is the theme for ECU’s 2015 Homecoming. The purpose of the parade is to highlight organizations and businesses and their support of ECU and the spirit of homecoming.
