    Brent Stone, a freshman from Seminole, and Jeffrey Cawthon, a junior from Ada, have been named the latest recipients of Chesapeake Cartography Scholarships at East Central University.

    Dr. Gregory Plumb, professor and chair of ECU’s Department of Cartography and Geography, said the students received $500 awards. They join eight other ECU majors as Chesapeake Scholars.

    Dr. Joshua Grasso, assistant professor of English and languages at East Central University, recently presented a lecture at the Tulsa Central Library as part of its award-winning Novel Talk series.

    The talk, titled, “How to Read Dracula: A Primer To Sink Your Teeth Into Stoker's Classic Novel,” opened the two-hour session, “Literature With Bite: Vampires in Books, Film, and Popular Culture.”

    Stephanie Canada, an instructor of education and kinesiology at East Central University, has been selected by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards to serve on a committee to make sure the board’s Physical Education Standards reflects the best practices and latest research in the field.

    Canada is among 10 National Board Certified Teachers from across the country on the 13-member committee which was chosen from a pool of more than 200 applicants.

    Dance students at East Central University will perform their spring dance concert at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday [APRIL 20-21] in the Chalmers Herman Theatre in the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center.

    Performers will be students in Dr. Victoria Dansby’s Improvisation and Composition Class and Jazz 1 Class, members of Collage, which is ECU’s dance ensemble, and alumni of the dance ensemble.

    The East Central University Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble will perform their Spring Concert Monday night [APRIL 18] with guest conductors, student conductors and three guest oboe players. The winners of the prestigious Saied Awards in instrumental music also will be announced.

    The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Ataloa Theatre in the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center. It is free and open to the public.

    The winner of the Nigh Award that honors East Central University’s top graduating senior will be announced at a luncheon Tuesday [APRIL 19] in ECU’s Stanley Wagner Ballroom.

    Five empty chairs sit alone at the front of the stage. They will represent children who have committed suicide because of relentless bullying.

    Five students will read the story of each of those children, from high school to age 6, during a program Tuesday [APRIL 19] at East Central University.

    The East Central University men’s soccer club is hosting the Southeastern Oklahoma State/Durant Soccer Club on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Lady Tiger Field, home of the ECU varsity women’s soccer team, in Ada.

     The ECU squad will unveil new uniforms from funds donated by Pure Nutrition, Gym 210, Citizen’s Bank and the ECU Student Senate.
