When music and theatre come together at East Central University or in the Ada community, chances are Vickie Jo Reifsnider has been in the middle of it for nearly the past 20 years.
For her years of service to Ada and ECU, Reifsnider was recently selected as “The 2016 Outstanding Adan in the Arts” by the Ada Arts Council. Reifsnider accepted the award during the “Ada Arts Showcase” at the Ada Arts and Heritage Center on Jan. 22.

Today the Regional University System of Oklahoma regents announced Dr. Katricia G. Pierson as the next East Central University president.
Pierson will be the ninth president in the university’s 108-year history and the first woman to hold the office.
Currently, Pierson is the provost and vice president of Academic Affairs at ECU. She joined the university in 2011 as assistant vice president of Academic Affairs. Prior to that she held various administrative positions at William Woods University in Fulton, Missouri.

The 2017 National Ground Water Association’s Darcy Lecture, delivered by Dr. Kamini Singha, is set for Thursday, Feb. 23, at 2 p.m. in East Central University’s Estep Multimedia Center in the Bill S. Cole University.
The lecture, which is free and open to the public, is being presented by the Robert S. Kerr Environmental Research Center GWERD (Ground Water and Ecosystems Restoration Division) Series and The Oka’ Institute.

ECU SCREENS continues its Seventh Annual Foreign Film Festival with “The Golden Dream” on Friday, Feb. 17 at 4 p.m. in East Central University’s Raymond J. Estep Multimedia Center of the Bill S. Cole University Center.
Winner of the Mexican Academy of Film’s Best Picture Award, “The Golden Dream” will be introduced by Dr. Errol King, assistant professor of Spanish at ECU.
Admission is free and open to the public. The screening is not recommended for children.

Flutist Dr. Brielle Frost, an orchestral musician, will perform a free concert at 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 20, in East Central University’s Faust Recital Hall.
ECU music students will be playing in a masterclass conducted by Frost, prior to the concert at 5:30 p.m., in room 158 of the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center. All are welcome to attend the masterclass as well.

East Central University student Keegan Buckaloo is working on an ambitious and unique senior project.
The Sallisaw native is set to direct “Legally Blonde: The Musical,” based on the novel by Amanda Brown and the 2001 Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer motion picture.

East Central University received a No. 15 national ranking for top online education degrees by the website guidetoonlineschools.com, it was recently announced.
The website highlighted 25 top online schools for online education degrees based on affordability and academic strength.
The three ECU programs, highlighted by the website, included online education master’s degrees in library media, secondary education: educational technology and secondary education: sports administration.

A retirement celebration is being conducted for East Central University President John R. Hargrave on Friday, Feb. 17, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in Foundation Hall of the ECU Chickasaw Business and Conference Center.
A public come-and-go reception for Hargrave is also scheduled for Feb. 17 from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the CBCC. Refreshments will be served and the reception is free.
Hargrave, the university’s eighth president, is set to retire March 1. He has served in that capacity since 2009.
