Every mill and factory in the town of Ada blew their steam whistles on March 25, 1909, in celebration of the creation of the East Central State Normal School.
Oklahoma Governor Charles N. Haskell signed the Ada Normal School bill that day, and 107 years later, this institution of higher learning, now known as East Central University, is still a major part of a thriving community.

Long after concluding her illustrious 38-year elementary school teaching career in 2005, Ada resident Ruth Ann Taylor has really never stopped instructing.
The East Central University graduate has often made presentations in schools, to Boy Scout Troops and to civic clubs in her postretirement years.

The 11th Annual Scissortail Creative Writing Festival will draw many creative writers and fans alike to East Central University in Ada, Okla., March 31-April 2, 2016.
Authors Naomi Shihab Nye and Dr. Ben Myers will be featured in addition to more than 50 author presentations from Oklahoma and beyond. All sessions are free and open to the public.

Mary Pauline Lanoy, of Coalgate, has a passion for higher education and a love of the teaching profession.
It’s only fitting that the Lanoy name - to honor Pauline (who is known as Polly by family of friends) and her late husband Leon - will soon adorn the Education Building on the East Central University campus. The naming ceremony for the facility will be conducted on Tuesday, March 29.

The American acting icon of the 80s, Molly Ringwald, is coming to East Central University for “An Evening with Molly Ringwald.”
On April 7, 2016, she will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. in the Ataloa Theatre at the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center.

From being on the “dean’s squad” to serving as a volunteer and mentor to achieving high academic honors, Trevor Sutton’s life as an East Central University student was busy but beneficial.
Sutton finished strong after being involved in ECU’s new Business Scholars Program. He achieved a master’s degree in accounting from the university this past fall and, as a result, was the first graduate to come out of the program, which is part of the Harland C. Stonecipher School of Business and sponsored by Kellogg & Sovereign Consulting, LLC, of Ada.

Dr. James Burke, chairman of the East Central University Human Resources Department, received the 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Oklahoma Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers at the group’s annual conference, March 3-5, in Norman.
Burke, a licensed clinical social worker, was nominated for the award by fellow social worker Dr. Carol Bridges, a retired professor from ECU.
