    A one-day grant writing workshop will be held twice in October at East Central University in Ada.

    Participants can choose either Oct. 5 [MONDAY] or Oct. 6 [TUESDAY] to learn how to write winning proposals in the Fundamentals of Grant Proposal Writing workshop. The program will be the same each day.

    Veterans with more than 180 days of active duty service or a service-related disability can apply for six weeks of training for five green job certifications through the Veterans Workforce Investment Program (VWIP) at East Central University.

    The next astronomy viewing with telescopes will be Tuesday [SEPT. 22] at East Central University. The public can view the moon and Jupiter from 8 to 8:30 p.m. at the ECU Observatory.

    Viewers should park in the Physical Plant parking lot northeast of the football stadium and walk 100 feet up a hill to the observatory. The viewing will be cancelled if it is cloudy or raining.

    Student musicians, singers and dancers will be the first performers on the giant stage of the Ataloa Theatre at 7 p.m. Sept. 25-26 [FRIDAY-SATURDAY] in East Central University's new Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center in a show full of music, 100 years of university memories, innovative costumes and authentic fashions, even a 1930's wool bathing suit.

    A $900,000 grant has been awarded to East Central University to provide scholarships and additional educational opportunities to students who commit to teach high school mathematics for six years in a "high-need" school district in Oklahoma.

    ECU is the first university in Oklahoma to ever receive the Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Grant. The five-year grant is funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation.

    Veterans with ties to East Central University over the last 100 years will be honored during a tribute at 3 p.m. Sept. 23 [WEDNESDAY] on the Crabtree Honor Plaza during ECU's Centennial celebration. The plaza is between Science Hall and the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center.
