    Learning how to help people resolve conflicts and move on with their lives can be very rewarding, according to a group of volunteers who do just that.

    Each year dozens of Oklahomans agree to give their time and energy to become a volunteer mediator through the Early Settlement Mediation Program. Pottawatomie County, however, is a little short on mediators and needs some volunteers to assist with both community- and court-related disputes.

    A Celtic music group with a passion for hard-driving fiddle and whistle tunes, heart-teasing waltzes and poignant ballads and broadsides will perform April 14 [SATURDAY] at East Central University.

    Finnegans Awake, which includes Ada’s own Susanne Woolley (fiddle, mandolin, vocals) will perform at 7:30 p.m. in the Dorothy Summers Theatre. Admission is $5.

    A sneak preview of the sixth season of “Art in the Twenty-First Century,” the only primetime national television series focused exclusively on contemporary art, will be offered April 3 and 4 [TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY] and April 11 and 12 [WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY] at East Central University in Ada.

    ECU’s Art Department will screen the programs in partnership with Art21 as part of its Access ’12 initiative.

    Students who plan to transfer to East Central University can see what ECU has to offer and enroll for the summer and fall semesters during Transfer Enrollment Day on April 11 [WEDNESDAY].

    New students will meet with the Transfer Enrollment Center staff, become familiar with campus policies and enrollment procedures, meet with their faculty advisers and enroll for summer and fall classes. They also will be offered tours of the campus and will be able to purchase textbooks and acquire their student ID cards.

    A representative from East Central University’s Transfer Enrollment Center will visit Seminole State College April 4 [WEDNESDAY] to talk with students thinking about transferring to ECU to complete a bachelor’s degree.

    Kyle W. Gardner, ECU’s transfer enrollment manager, will be in Tanner Hall from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Students can talk with him about signing up to enroll for the summer and fall semesters during ECU’s Transfer Enrollment Day on April 11.

    Dr. Diana Watson-Maile, chair of the Family and Consumer Sciences Department at East Central University, holds the award she received at the Oklahoma Association of Family and Consumer Sciences State Conference. She was presented the Lea O’Toole Research and Innovation Award for excellence in research and development of the FCS profession.

    A presentation at the state Capitol recently showed legislators how the six universities that make up the Regional University System of Oklahoma, including East Central University, are working together to let the people of Oklahoma know how they are being served by the sister universities.

    The presentation on Higher Education Day featured a prominent alum from ECU, Northeastern State University, the University of Central Oklahoma and Northwestern, Southwestern and Southeastern Oklahoma State Universities.
