    Dr. Glen D. Johnson Jr., Oklahoma chancellor of higher education, will be the speaker Dec. 15 [SATURDAY] for East Central University's fall Commencement.

    The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. in Kerr Activities Center for 217 candidates for bachelor's degrees and 72 candidates for master's degrees.

    A $125,000 gift to the East Central University Foundation Inc. from the Ada public accounting firm Horne and Company has established the Horne and Company Regents Professorship in Accounting at ECU.

    The gift was made by the firm's partners, Bill Horne Sr., Bill Horne Jr. and Curtis Wilson. It will be matched by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education.

    Allen Correll, director of bands at East Central University, will be one of 11 presenters Dec. 7 at a symposium in Melbourne, Australia, that will mark the 125th anniversary of the birth of noted composer and virtuoso pianist Percy Grainger.

    The symposium at the University of Melbourne will provide a forum for the presentation of new perspectives and possible areas of study relating to Grainger and his music. The university also houses the Grainger Museum.

    Dr. Mara Sukholutskaya, associate professor of English and languages at East Central University, presented a paper in San Antonio Nov. 16-18 at the national conference of the American Council on Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL).

    Tyler Lee of Wetumka, a freshman at East Central University and a four-year member of ECU's Upward Bound Program from Moss High School, has received a $250 scholarship from the Southwest Association of Student Assistance Programs.

    The association works toward educational opportunity for students in federal TRIO programs, which includes the Upward Bound program, and supports activities that enable participants to achieve their educational goals.

    The East Central University Chorale and University Chorus will perform in concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday [DEC. 3] at St. Joseph Catholic Church under the direction of Dr. Steven Walker, professor of music.

    Three original works will be performed by the University Chorale, "Actus Fidei" by ECU student Jason Oss, and "Behold! I Set My Rainbow in the Clouds" and "Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem," both by Victoria Davison of Ada and adjunct instructor Rudy Lupinski.

    A Study Abroad Program just established at East Central University will allow ECU students and faculty to change places with their counterparts at two new sister universities in Ukraine and Russia.

    The international educational exchange program was established through agreements between ECU and Kiev National University of Linguistics in Kiev, Ukraine, and State University of Management in Moscow, Russia.

    A mystery in which two women vie for the affections of an opera producer will be presented this week at East Central University.

    "Type O Negative," written and directed by ECU faculty member Dr. Bret Jones, will run Thursday through Saturday [NOV. 29, 30 & DEC. 1] in the Black Box Theatre in Science Hall.   The doors open at 7:30 p.m. The play is free to the public but seating is limited.
