    ADA, Okla. – East Central University and Redlands Community College, along with the City of Duncan, Okla. and Duncan Public Schools are coming together to celebrate the life of Chris Lane on Tuesday, Oct. 15.

    ‘Chris Lane Night at the Ballpark’, to be held at the Duncan High School’s baseball field, will feature an exhibition baseball event between ECU and Redlands. The festivities begin at 5 p.m.

    ADA – Select Native American baskets and totem poles from the Northwestern United States, as part of the Sally and Marshall Gettys Collection, will be on display in East Central University’s Pogue Art Gallery in the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center from Oct. 24-Nov.26.

    The exhibit, sponsored by the Office of the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences and the Native American Studies Program, can be viewed each weekday during that span from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

    ADA – Amie Orr is passionate about science and plans to pass along that enthusiasm while leading East Central University’s Upward Bound Math and Science Program.
    “Rural schools do not have the funds to support hands-on activities in math and science, whereas, our students get exposed to laboratory activities during our summer program,” said Orr. “Experts say that a high level of learning occurs when the students are actively engaged.”

    ADA – “Doubt: A Parable” will be the first theatrical production of the year by the East Central University Theatre Department.

    Three performances are scheduled for Oct. 10-12, 7:30 p.m. each night, at the J. Chalmers Herman Theatre inside the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center.

    Tickets are $10 each and $9 for senior citizens and non-ECU students. Season passes for the 2013-2014 fine arts season will be accepted as well. ECU alumni receive a $1 discount and admission is free for ECU students, faculty and staff with ECU ID.

    ADA – The 2013 East Central University homecoming king and queen are Logan Durham, a junior history major from Oklahoma City; and Emily Davis, a sophomore English major from Blanchard. Durham was representing the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity and Davis was representing the Honors Student Association. Durham is a criminal justice minor and is secretary of Lambda Alpha Epsilon and president of the Pi Kappa Alpha International Fraternity at ECU.

    ADA – East Central University honored two of its cheerleaders with the 2013 James and Glenna Cranford Scholarship Award ($1,000 apiece) during ECU’s homecoming festivities on Oct. 5. Pictured left to right are: ECU President John Hargrave; cheerleader Grace Bowles, of Norman; cheerleader Shyann Hester, of Yukon; Mike Cranford, son of James and Glenna Cranford, who presented the awards; Jill Clark, ECU cheer and dance coach; and Phyllis Danley, executive director of the ECU Foundation, Inc. The award is given annually at homecoming to a member of the ECU cheerleading squad.

    ADA – The East Central University Gay-Straight Alliance will host a special presentation by Mary Bishop and Sharon Baldwin in recognition of National Coming Out Day, Thursday, October 10 at 7 p.m. in the Estep Multimedia Room, located in the Bill S. Cole University Center, on the ECU campus.
