    Moving across continents and across cultures could be difficult for anyone. But several East Central University students made that move without complaints and with kudos for Ada and their ECU classmates.

    They also will offer some of their native dishes at the International Dinner at 6 p.m. Friday [NOV. 20] in the Stanley Wagner Ballroom in ECU’s Memorial Student Union. Tickets are $10 per adult and free for children under the age of 5.

    The Department of Veterans Affairs has made funds available for veteran students who are still waiting for their education benefit claim to be processed. Eligible veterans can receive up to a $3,000 advance which will be recouped from future benefit payments.

    The Tiger speech and debate team from East Central University ranked first among Oklahoma colleges and universities in individual events competition at the Blue Dragon Invitational Nov. 7-8 at Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College. Marissa Williams, Brittany Trail and Barb Tiry all brought home awards.

    Have you ever wanted to experience the physical and cultural geography of places much different than your own? If so, a one-hour colloquium Thursday [NOV. 19] at East Central University will highlight an ECU professor's travels to northern Tanzania and southern Kenya.

    A program explaining urban legends, those stories that circulate on the Internet warning about dangerous or disgusting situations, will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday [NOV. 12] in the Linscheid Library instruction room on the library's main level.

    Librarian Angie Brunk said she organized the program after hearing rumors circulating about restaurants serving dog or cat meat in their dishes.

    French pianist Hugues Leclère will perform at 3 p.m. Sunday [NOV. 15] at the Ada Arts & Heritage Center, 400 S. Rennie. The free concert is part of East Central University's Concert Series and the Scissortail Arts Series and is sponsored by the ECU Music Department and the Oklahoma Arts Council.

    Volunteers are busy planning and raising funds for the Annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner for more than 3,000 people on Nov. 23 [MONDAY] at the Pontotoc County Agri-Plex at the fairgrounds on North Broadway.

    Turkey, ham, vegetables, hot rolls and desserts will be served free from 5 to 8 p.m. Meals also can be delivered to the homebound who live inside the Ada city limits.

    Students in the Social Work Practice II class at East Central University will present an adoption awareness forum from 9 to 11 a.m. Nov. 10 [TUESDAY] in the Estep Multimedia Center on the first floor of the University Center.
