    East Central University received the highest certification level – excellence status – for a Certified Healthy Campus by the Oklahoma Turning Point Council and the ECU Administration and Finance Office achieved a Certified Healthy Business Merit Certificate, it was recently announced.

    East Central University’s Linscheid Library will showcase its new Collaborative Spaces project with a ceremony and open house from 1:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m. on Friday, March 24.

    The spaces, funded through a $40,000 grant from the Sarkeys Foundation, are located on the northwest corner of the second floor of the library. There are five spaces, approximately 5 feet by six feet, separated by smoked glass. They are all furnished with casual living room chairs, ottomans and benches. Each space comes with a 4.5-foot by 5-foot portable marker board.

    The 12th Annual Scissortail Creative Writing Festival will draw many creative writers and fans alike to East Central University in Ada, April 6-8, 2017.

    Authors Patricia Hampl and Leif Enger will be featured in addition to more than 60 author presentations from Oklahoma and beyond. All sessions are free and open to the public.

    The foundation established by East Central University’s fairly new Dr. Raniyah Ramadan Center for Undergraduate Research and Learning is already paying off for students.

    Such is the case for ECU junior Josh Hardage, a biology/chemistry double-major, from Washington, Oklahoma.

    Hardage will have the opportunity to serve an internship at Duke University this summer, under the direction of ECU alumnus Dr. Courtney Karner, who is an assistant professor and research faculty member in the Department of Orthopaedics Research at the prestigious institution in Durham, N.C.

    East Central University’s Dr. Mara Sukholutskaya recently received the Excellence in Classroom Teaching Award (Post-Secondary) at the Southwest Conference on Language Teaching at the Skirvin Hotel in Oklahoma City.

    The recipient of the award goes to an educator, who teaches languages other than English and has contributed significantly to the teaching of second languages and to the profession. The instructor’s impact of the contribution must be significant in terms of the influence the individual has made on student learning.

    Enhancing the experiences of young women in collegiate athletics is near and dear to the heart of Billie Floyd.

    A longtime educator, State Senator and civic leader, Floyd is serving as honorary chair of East Central University’s new “Campaign for Excellence in Women’s Athletics.”

    The purpose of the campaign is to provide additional funding for ECU’s Women’s Athletics as funds raised will be kept at the ECU Foundation, Inc.

    ADA – New East Central University President Katricia G. Pierson poses with retiring ECU President John R. Hargrave as Pierson officially took over the university’s presidency in a community-wide reception on Tuesday, Feb. 28. “I’ve got optimism because we have the best and brightest faculty in the state of Oklahoma and we have a staff that gives tirelessly, tirelessly to make this place wonderful for one another and our students,” said Pierson.  Hargrave is pleased with Pierson being his successor. “I’m very excited to see her carry on the campus traditions and programs at ECU.
