    Russian pianist Arsentiy Kharitonov will perform at 6 p.m. Thursday [OCT. 30] at the Ada Arts & Heritage Center, 14th and Rennie.

    The concert is free and sponsored by East Central University's Music Department.

    A native of Stary Oskol, Russia, Kharitonov has performed in Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Netherlands, Germany, Finland and the United States.

    An 8th grade algebra teacher who never uses textbooks or assigns homework will share her passion for helping students understand math - and for trying new teaching methods - during the 12th annual Marvin Stokes Endowed Lectureship Monday [OCT. 27] at East Central University.

    Heather Sparks, the 2009 Oklahoma Teacher of the Year, will speak at 6:30 p.m. in the Estep Multimedia Center on the first floor of the University Center. Her presentation is open to the public at no charge. Area Teachers of the Year for 2007-08 also will be recognized during the evening.

    An opportunity to view a collection of 92 of the most celebrated works of the great Impressionist painters will be offered Nov. 1 [SATURDAY] by East Central University's Center of Continuing Education and Community Services.

    Participants in a day-long trip to the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, Texas, will tour "The Impressionists: Master Paintings from the Art Institute of Chicago" with works by the most beloved group of painters of all time.

    East Central University will be closed Thursday and Friday [Oct. 16 - 17] for fall break. No classes will be in session and offices will be closed. The university will re-open at 8 a.m. Oct. 20 [Monday].

    The Linscheid Library will close at 10 p.m. on Wednesday and will be open from 4 - 8 p.m. on Sunday [Oct. 19].

    Students representing 11 campus organizations have been nominated for East Central University's Homecoming king and queen. Students vote for the top five queen candidates and the top five candidates for king.

    This is only the second year a Homecoming king has been selected.

Throw in some local southern characters, a bit of sinister intrigue and danger and the result is "The Foreigner," a popular comedy that will be staged Oct. 22-25 [WEDNESDAY - SATURDAY] during Homecoming Week at East Central University.
