    A presidential search committee has been formed by the Regional University System of Oklahoma to conduct a national search for the next president of East Central University. Connie Reilly of Okemah, a member of the RUSO Board of Regents, was appointed to chair the committee at the regents' regular meeting on Jan. 21.

    The committee also includes Regent Ann Holloway of Ardmore and Regent Michael Mitchel of Alva.

    The 2008 graduates from East Central University's nursing program attained a 94 percent first-time pass rate on the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX). Graduates from all nursing programs in the United States must pass this examination in order to practice as Registered Nurses.

    Dr. Dwight Myers, chair of the Chemistry Department at East Central Picture of Dr MyersUniversity, has been recognized as one of four authors of a "Best Paper" in the Structures and Materials Division at the NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio.

    Richard Neal, a member of East Central University's chapter of Alpha Chi national college honor society, has been awarded a $1,000 Edwin W. Gaston Jr. Scholarship for Alpha Chi's Region II.

    Neal presented his winning paper, "Nixon and the Foreign Policy Paradigm: The New World Order," at the Region II Alpha Chi Convention last April in Seguin, Texas.

    A $1,000 gift from an Ada resident will help two East Central University students travel to Russia next spring to learn more about the country and language they are studying.

    Linda Ainsworth made the gift on behalf of her late husband, Gary Ainsworth, an Ada businessman who had made several trips to Ukraine and had taken Russian language classes at ECU taught by Dr. Mara Sukholutskaya, associate professor of English and languages.

    High academic performance during the fall semester has earned listings on the President's and Deans' Honor Rolls for students at East Central University.

    The East Central University community will watch history in the making with the inauguration of the 44th president of the United States, Barack Obama.

    On Tuesday [Jan. 20] ECU will host a viewing of the inauguration on a large projection screen in the Estep Multimedia Center in the University Center. The viewing is free of charge. The doors will be open from 9 a.m. until noon. The swearing-in ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m.
