    East Central University will present its Jazz Ensemble Concert at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 12, in the Kennedy Band Hall of the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center.

    The concert, which is free and open to the public, will be under the direction of Kirk Palmer. Performances will be conducted on the alto sax, tenor sax, trumpet, trombone, piano and bass. Selections include: April in Paris; Mercy, Mercy, Mercy; Samantha; Splanky and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight.

    Weston Smith often speaks, challenges and motivates groups “to simply do the right thing.”

    Smith, former CFO of HealthSouth, will be presenting “Crossing the Line – An Insider’s Perspective of the HealthSouth Fraud” at East Central University’s 26th Annual Parker Ethics Lecture Thursday, Oct. 22, at 7:30 p.m. in ECU Foundation Hall at the Chickasaw Business and Conference Center.

    Entries are being accepted for East Central University’s 2015 Homecoming Parade, set for Saturday, Oct. 31, at 12:30 p.m. along Main Street in Ada. “Once Upon a Time in Tigerland” is the theme for ECU’s 2015 Homecoming. The purpose of the parade is to highlight organizations and businesses and their support of ECU and the spirit of homecoming. Applications are available online for floats, vehicles, performing groups, marching bands, king and queen candidates, etc. Register at

    Former State Treasurer of Oklahoma Scott Meacham will deliver East Central University’s Leonard Limes Lecture at noon Thursday, Oct. 22, in Foundation Hall of the Chickasaw Business and Conference Center.

    The dinner and lecture, being held in conjunction with the Tiger Tank Pitch competition, will begin at noon. Lunch is $12 per person and those interested in attending should RSVP by Friday, Oct. 9. The Tiger Tank competition will also take place from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 22.

    A violin/piano recital, featuring Dr. Stuart Deaver and Maureen O’Boyle, is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 11, at 3 p.m. at East Central University’s Faust Auditorium.

    The recital is free and open to the public.

    Deaver, a professor of piano at the University of Tulsa, has won numerous awards and has performed across the country and internationally. Like Deaver, O’Boyle, is an instructor at TU and is concert-master of the Tulsa Opera Orchestra and of the Signature Symphony at Tulsa Community College. She has performed with orchestras throughout the United States and abroad.

    Key alumni, community leaders, faculty, former faculty and friends gathered together Thursday, Oct. 1, for the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the grand reopening of the Education Building on the East Central University campus.

    Shakespeare lovers and haters alike can experience laughter as the East Central University Theatre Department launches its first production of the 2015-16 Fine Arts Season with “The Compleat Works of WLLM SHKSPR (abridged) [revised],” Thursday-Saturday, Oct. 8-10, in the Chalmers Herman Theatre inside the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center.

    Four performances are scheduled with three nightly shows at 7:30 p.m. and a Saturday matinee at 2 p.m. There is a language advisory for the performances.

    East Central University’s Tiger Speech and Debate Team brings a live parliamentary debate, featuring the National British Debate Team, to the Chickasaw Business and Conference Center Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. in the ECU Foundation Hall.

    The debate is free and open to the public.

    In addition to the debate, a workshop will be held the same day from 2-4 p.m. in Room 103 of the Chickasaw Business and Conference Center.
