    Four ECU representatives stand near where the north end zone goalpost has been removed in preparation for the installation of new turf at East Central University’s Norris Field.

    East Central University’s Norris Field is receiving a makeover in its truest sense.

    For the first time in the 80-year-plus history of the venerable football stadium, it will receive an artificial playing surface in time for the 2013 season.

    The $880,300 surface, called Revolution, comes from FieldTurf Company, according to Stan Lewis of Architects in Partnership, P.C., of Norman.

    East Central University students can earn six credit hours with a trip to the country of Spain during Spring Break.

    Students will depart on the trip March 15 and will return on March 25. They will earn the six ECU credit hours at the University of Extremadura, located in the city of Caceres. The cities of Madrid and Toledo will also be visited.

    The cost of the trip is approximately $2,895. The deadline has been extended until Feb. 8.

    Dr. Yasufumi Nakamori, Associate Curator of Photography for the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, will be the guest speaker for the 2013 Lockmiller Lecture in Art History on Wednesday, Feb. 27, at 4 p.m. in the Estep Center of the Bill S. Cole University Center.

    Nakamori’s talk called For a New World to Come: Experiments in Art and Photography from 1970s Japan is based on his research for the last three years for a proposed exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, with the same title.

    Outstanding academic work by East Central University students have led to listings on the President’s Honor Roll and Dean’s Honor Roll for the fall semester of 2012.

    Students must complete 12 credit hours during the semester to be included on the honor roll. They cannot receive an “I” for incomplete work.

    Navajo Code Talker Bill Toledo

    A significant glimpse into World War II and Native American history can be experienced as Navajo Code Talker Bill Toledo will be in attendance to share his story during the Fifth Annual Louise Young Diversity Lecture on Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. at the Ataloa Theatre of the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts on the East Central University campus.

    A valued education can be obtained at East Central University and incoming freshmen from Pottawatomie County can receive help with a $500 fee waiver for the 2013-14 school term.

    The fee waiver covers $250 each semester, beginning with the fall of 2013 and ending with the spring of 2014. This scholarship would be in addition to any other smaller waivers that may be offered by ECU.
