    ADA – Oklahoma State Senator Susan Paddack has been named East Central University’s Distinguished Alumnus and will address candidates for bachelor’s and master’s degrees at ECU’s fall commencement ceremonies on Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Kerr Activities Center.

    The ceremony begins at 10 a.m. for 225 candidates for bachelor’s degrees and 94 candidates for master’s degrees.

    Paddack was elected as state senator for District 13, which includes Pontotoc, Hughes, and portions of Garvin and Coal Counties, in 2004 and serves as Democratic Caucus Co-Chair.

    ADA – Dr. Mara Sukholutskaya, East Central University’s Global Education Director, has received an award that is near and dear to her heart.

    Sukholutskaya was recently awarded the title of honorary doctor of two cooperating universities – the M.P. Dragomanov National Pedagogical University (Kiev, Ukraine) and the Ukrainian-American Liberal Arts Institute "Wisconsin International University (USA)- Ukraine" (WIUU).

    ADA – Ten students from East Central University’s Pi Sigma Alpha Political Science Honor Society have been selected to travel to Washington, D.C., to participate in the “D.C. Internship Experience”, Feb. 12-16, 2014.

    “ECU’s top students can compete anywhere.  The D.C. trip shows students the wide world of legal and political careers to which they may aspire,” said Dr. Christine Pappas, department coordinator and professor in ECU’s Political Science and Legal Studies Department.

    ADA – Four classes called “Making Social Media Work for You”, presented by Maira Moraes Ollila and Dr. Pat Fountain, are being offered at East Central University, Dec. 16-17.

    The classes are for those who want to put social media to work, building relationships with customers and clients in order to increase revenue. Those who attend will learn how to make social media work for their organization, through one class session or all four.

    ADA – The East Central University chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha Political Science Honor Society initiated eight new members during a recent ceremony in the Rudolph Hargrave Moot Courtroom in the Harland C. Stonecipher School of Business. 

    To be eligible to induction, students must be a junior or senior and have a 3.0 average in all political science and legal studies classes.

    ADA – East Central University Director of Communications and Marketing Amy (Garcia) Ford was presented the prestigious Natalea Watkins Communicator of the Year Award for 2013 on Wednesday at the Oklahoma College Public Relations Association’s Fall Workshop in the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History at the University of Oklahoma in Norman. Ford was nominated for the award by virtue of her leadership that has had a positive influence for ECU as well as for the state system of higher education. OCPRA was founded in 1969 and Ford is the 10th person in the state to receive this honor.
