Golfers of all levels and ages will have an opportunity to help enrich the lives of Ada's youngest citizens through a benefit adult/child golf scramble July 20 [TUESDAY]. Project Invest, an initiative to help build support of Ada-area child care programs, will host the benefit at Lakewood Golf Course.

Youngsters from grades 3 through 6 can learn about the Dust Bowl through hands-on activities during a one-day Kaleidoscope Conference July 16 [FRIDAY] at East Central University.
"Children of the Dust Bowl" will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and is one of the summer camps offered by ECU's Center of Continuing Education and Community Services.

The Linscheid Library Academic Friends, a new organization that supports East Central University's library, has received a $300 seed grant from the Friends of Libraries in Oklahoma (FOLIO) to help with printing promotional materials and start-up expenses.

East Central University's Center of Continuing Education is offering three weeks of Tennis Camp with Petr Sitnikov beginning June 28 [MONDAY].
The camp, for ages 8-19, will be held June 28-July 2, July 6-9 and July 12-16. Class will meet from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. The cost is $120 per week or $300 for all three weeks.

East Central University's Summer Community Band and Jazz Ensemble will play their summer concert at 3 p.m. Sunday [JUNE 27] in the Ataloa Theater of the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center on the ECU campus.
The concert is free to all and will be followed by a watermelon festival at the gazebo east of the fine arts center.

Another class of nursing graduates from East Central University has posted a nearly perfect pass rate on their first attempt at taking the national licensing exam to become registered nurses.
Dr. Anne Davis, chair of ECU's Department of Nursing, said 98 percent of ECU's May 2009 nursing graduates passed the National Council Licensure Examination-RN (NCLEX-RN) on their first try. The 52 graduates were from the Ada and Durant campuses.

Dr. Allen Correll, director of bands at East Central University, has received the $1,000 Provost's Ph.D. Dissertation Prize in the field of humanities and fine arts from the University of Oklahoma.
He received the award for his dissertation, "Percy Grainger's Wind Band Setting of The Immovable Do: Its History and Analysis."
