East Central University students from Pi Sigma Alpha, the Legal Professionals Association and a class on government and political science research methods will celebrate Global Youth Service Day from 3 to 5 p.m. April 15 [FRIDAY] during Olympic HEROES at the Boys and Girls Club of Ada.
Youngsters at the club and friends will enjoy a healthy snack, Olympic-like fun and the presentation of sporting goods to the club. Parents, community members and volunteers are invited.

A retired East Central University professor, the 2011 Oklahoma Teacher of the Year and an early-day ECU graduate will be inducted into ECU’s Gene and Evelyn Keefer Educators Hall of Fame at 2:30 p.m. April 13 [WEDNESDAY]. The ceremony will be open to the public in the Danley Hall atrium.

Pearl Carter Scott, who was taught to fly by famed aviator Wiley Post when she was 12, will be the focus of the annual Kaleidoscope Conference April 15 [FRIDAY] at East Central University. The conference is open to youngsters from the 3rd through the 8th grade and enrollment is still open.

Former students and graduates of East Central University will meet in McAlester for an alumni reunion April 15 [FRIDAY] at Angel’s Diner, 1402 S. George Nigh Expressway. The reunion will begin at 6 p.m. and will include appetizers and prizes. Attendees should register online at alumni.ecok.edu or call 580-559-5651. Donations will be taken at the door for an alumni scholarship.

A $255,840 “Oklahoma Green” grant awarded to East Central University, funded by the U.S. Department of Labor and administered by the Oklahoma Department of Commerce, will train, certify and place up to 200 workers who will become eligible for “green jobs” in energy efficiency and renewable energy occupations.
The free courses will be offered throughout the year in Ada, Ardmore and Durant.
