    East Central University is proud to announce “King of Ragtime: ECU Commemorates the Life and Music of Scott Joplin” to be held on Monday, Nov. 6, in the Ataloa Theatre of the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center.

    Preconcert cakewalks, with gourmet cake prizes, will begin at 7 p.m. The formal program will commence at 7:30 p.m.

    Donna Graves, instructor of communication studies at East Central University, was recently presented the D.J. Nabors College Forensics Coach Award during the Oklahoma Speech Theatre Communication Association meeting held at ECU’s Chickasaw Business and Conference Center.

    “I am honored to have received it on behalf of my students who work so hard to try to explore new areas and challenges,” said Graves.

    East Central University junior Kelsey Anderson took first place in the Student Research Poster Competition at the Second Annual Oka’ Institute Sustainability Conference held recently in ECU Foundation Hall of the Chickasaw Business and Conference Center.

    Anderson, a chemistry major from Lancaster, Ohio, worked with Dr. Randall Maples, ECU assistant professor of chemistry, on the project and poster entitled “Nanoremediation – An Assessment Model of Iron Oxide Nanoparticle Mobility in Groundwater.”

    Dr. Bernida Webb-Binder will present East Central University’s 2017 Lockmiller Lecture in Art History on Thursday, Nov. 2, at 4 p.m. in the Estep Multimedia Center of the Bill S. Cole University Center.

    Her topic will be “Jewell Castro’s Representations of Family and Identity in Samoan American Art.”

    The lecture is free and open to the public.

    Barbara J. Corcoran wanted a way to express the journey her and her husband Bob have been through and has done so through her book Our Mountains to Climb a Journey of Love and Faith Through Trials.

    The 1972 East Central University graduate will conduct a book signing on Friday, Oct. 27, from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. in the lobby directly in front of the ECU Bookstore. The cost of the book is $13.95 plus tax and will be available for purchase.

    Jon Hazell, 2017 Oklahoma Teacher of the Year and science teacher at Durant High School, will deliver East Central University’s 2017 Marvin Stokes Lecture on Monday, Oct. 30, at 6:30 p.m. in the Estep Multimedia Room of the Bill S. Cole University Center.

    “Oh! The Places Tigers Will Go!” is the theme as East Central University will conduct its 2017 homecoming with activities on Friday-Saturday, Oct. 27-28.

    Highlights include the alumni golf tournament at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 27, at the Oak Hills Golf and Country Club in Ada; homecoming parade on Saturday, Oct. 28, at noon and the football game at 4 p.m. Saturday against Arkansas Tech on Norris Field at Koi Ishto Stadium.

    The theme is in reference and honor of the famous children’s books by Dr. Seuss.

    The innovativeness of Jamie Leach and the leadership of her husband Clyde led to the formation of Leachco, an Ada-based company that focuses on the safety and well-being of children, as well as the comfort of expectant moms while adding convenience to parents’ busy lifestyles in 1988.

    Clyde Leach will be the keynote speaker at the Leonard Limes Lecture on Thursday, Nov. 16, in East Central University’s Foundation Hall of the Chickasaw Business and Conference Center. The lecture is being held in conjunction with the Tiger Tank Pitch Competition.
