    In hopes of curtailing prescription drug abuse, the East Central University Campus Suicide Prevention Grant, Pontotoc County Drug Free Coalition and the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics is hosting an event in which citizens can get rid of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs on Saturday, April 28 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the 10Box Cost-Plus store at 1716 N. Mississippi in Ada.

    The event is being held in conjunction with National Prescription Take Back Day. This service is free and anonymous as no questions will be asked.

    Cultural enrichment for students, faculty, staff and the community has led to a beneficial partnership between Oklahoma Heritage Bank and East Central University.

    Because of those efforts, Oklahoma Heritage Bank was recently recognized with the Regents Business Partnership Excellence Award from the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education.

    The OHB-ECU partnership was one of 27 business and higher education partnerships throughout the state which were recognized as innovative collaborations that further the education of Oklahoma’s workforce.

    Dr. Bill Chapman, who held the title of Boswell Professor of Business and chair of the Oscar Parker Ethics Center, will be honored with East Central University’s Distinguished Former Faculty Award on May, 11, at ECU’s 2018 Evening of Honors and Recognition.

    Chapman became the chair of ECU’s Department of Business Administration and Accounting in 1973 and over the next 14 years, the student enrollment and the number of business faculty more than doubled.

    Fourteen East Central University business students have been announced as Class of 2018 Scholar Leaders by the ECU Stonecipher School of Business, it was recently revealed.

    The program is geared toward junior and senior business majors who demonstrate academic excellence and are looking for a way to better themselves through student engagement and cultural enrichment.

    In order to be a part of the Business Scholar Leaders program, students must have a minimum 3.5 grade-point average, be able to volunteer for special projects and participate in the Dean’s Leadership Council.

    East Central University student Kendall Hargis recently learned that she passed the Certified Treasury Professional (CTP) examination, one of the premier certifications in the fields of accounting and finance.

    The CTP certification requires those sitting for the exam to demonstrate mastery of knowledge domains pertinent to corporate treasury management.

    Hargis, a senior accounting major from Ada, is expected to graduate with both a bachelor of science with a major in accounting and a certificate in accounting with a concentration in treasury management in December 2018.

    The sounds of instrumental music will fill the air as two free concerts, presented by the East Central University Music Department, will take place on Thursday, April 19, and Sunday, April 22, in the Ataloa Theatre of the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center.

    Lovers of jazz and rock music will enjoy the ECU Jazz Ensemble Concert, set for this Thursday, April 19, at 7:30 p.m. The Jazz Ensemble is under the direction of Kirk Palmer.

    Current high school juniors get to learn about and experience college life as East Central University hosts “Junior Day” from 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday, April 20.

    The event features a complimentary lunch, campus involvement carnival and campus tour. The event begins with a 9:30 a.m. registration, followed by a welcome from ECU President Katricia G. Pierson, an information session and a distinguished professional lecture.
